Who do men say that I am?
Christ asked this of his own disciples, “Who do men say that I am?” They all gave him different answers; a prophet, a teacher and so on. Jesus then asked them directly, “Who do YOU say that I am?” Peter said to him, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus then responded to him “Flesh and Blood has not revealed this to you, but only my father in Heaven.” Jesus was saying to Peter, nothing on this earth has revealed this to you, no miracle that Jesus worked, no logic that you have followed to reason it out, no sermon that was preached to you, no theology you were taught, no book you have read, but it was revealed to you in Spirit. Peter had divine inspiration and was born again to the true identity of Christ. You too can have this knowledge of Christ, which does not come by Bible lessons, logic, or reason, but by the Holy Spirit. You can know in your heart that Jesus lives and that he is who he said he was, the true Son of God. Jesus came to have a personal relationship with you. He is not some distant figure in the sky waiting for you to make a wrong move, but a God that came down and died, and gave his life just so He could reunite you with Himself. God will never force Himself on you. He gives all of humanity a choice. He said, ‘I have made you, created you with my own hands, made you in my image and likeness, and gave you life.’ However, He says, ‘I will not force you to love me, but I will give you that choice, that free will. You can reject me if you want but nevertheless I will pay that price so that if you choose to, you can come back to me.’ Christ is that unconditional love. He will not love you more today than he does tomorrow. He will love you no matter what. All he looks for is your love in return, to love him back, just as if you love someone you want them to respond to that love and develop a relationship with you.
This day, if you do not know the true identity of Christ, all you have to do is ask. You don’t have to be in a church or on your knees before a cross, and it doesn’t matter if you’re Catholic, Baptist, Methodist, or any other denomination. Wherever you are, all you have to do is say, “Lord I want to know you for who you are. Send your Holy Spirit to reveal yourself to me.” This could be the greatest day of your life, for you will be born again into the true identity of Christ. He will write your name upon His hand and when you die you will return to Him and when you return to him you will return to love itself.
