How often have you prayed for something, then tried to figure out why it didn’t happen? It can be hard to know how exactly prayer works. But don’t worry–you are not alone! Prayer is one of the most common struggles that people have.
Thankfully, there are steps you can take to make sure your prayers are effective!
Step One: Identify your needs!
The first step is to identify your needs. What do you need God to help you with? This could be anything from a physical need like healing or provision to a spiritual need like guidance or protection.
Once you have identified what you need, make sure that your prayer reflects that. You can’t effectively pray for something if you don’t even know what you need or want! Effective prayer is knowing what you need or want and remembering not to limit God. And you limit Him when it comes to what He can do for you or for others. There are a few ways that you can approach this; I recommend the following steps:
- If you don’t know what you want the Bible, says in “Matthew 6:8 For your Father knows the things you need of before you ask Him!”
- Take a pen and paper; just start writing or typing, even on your keyboard. As you write, you will see a conversation emerge that has been buried for ages deep inside. You will learn to train your heart and mind to see your needs and wants; as they become clearer, you can ask away, don’t be reluctant to ask!
- Another way is to start small; as you see Him work in your life, you will become bolder in your asking!
Step Two: Believe that you received!
The second step is to believe that you already have what you pray for, Jesus said very clearly, “Mark 11:24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.” also he said in “Luke 12:32 Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. So, know what you want and ask, knowing you have already received your answer.
Step Three: Rest in the knowledge that it is done; it is finished!
This third is a very important step not to think what do, I do next because most of us think about what we need to do! YOU DO NOTHING except knowing that it is done. You must be aware that the father has heard and has answered your prayer and BEING GRATEFUL denotes that you have what you asked for. BELIEVING THOSE THINGS THAT ARE NOT AS IF THEY WERE, THE BIBLICAL DEFINITION OF FAITH! Without FAITH you cannot please God!
Finally, Jesus teaches us by example; in John 11:40-43, one of the most powerful prayers in the Bible is when Jesus lets us in to see how he prays in an impossible situation. Jesus said to her, “Did I not say to you that if you would believe, you would see the glory of God?” Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead man was lying. And Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. “And I know that You always hear Me, but because of the people who are standing by, I said this, that they may believe that You sent Me.” Now when He had said these things, He cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth!” this is your prayer too! And remember it is His good pleasure to give you the Kingdom! “John 14:13 And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
