THOUGHTS FROM THE EPISTLE OF JAMES
The Royal Law
Continuing to chapter two of the Epistle of James, James highlights the Royal Law; we have come to learn in past studies that the Royal Law is The Book of Covenant this is part of the God’s character and its an attribute of his sons and daughters. We read in 1 John 4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. In Matthew 22:37-40 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. Moreover, the second is like unto it; Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. Proving that it’s that Love is the foundation of the royal law. “For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself” James gives examples of how we are not to show partiality based on appearance, as the world does. We are to walk in Love as God does being like him, the Covenant what is spoken of in Jeremiah 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: this covenant is the Royal Law that James is speaking about James 2:8 If ye fulfill the Royal Law according to the Scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself, ye do well. This is the fulfillment of the New Covenant can also be read in Hebrews 8:8-10 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a New Covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people. God did not Change the Covenant as you, and I think of Change, the difference has he put it into our minds and wrote it on our hearts. This Law was to be administered by the Eternal Priesthood of Melchizedek as is read in Revelation 1:5-6 Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first-begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him, that loved us and washed us from our sins in his own blood, and hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever.
Faith without works is dead
James teaches that Faith without works is dead James 2:18-20 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. However, wilt thou know, o vain man, that faith without works is dead? Faith demands a response; love demands action that is the work of faith.
