The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe. Proverbs 29:25

Fear, maybe one of the most prevailing sins in the world today. The Hebrew word that is used in this proverb for fear is “charadah” (חרדה) meaning: fear, anxiety, quaking, trembling. In Numbers 33:24 we see Israel come to a place on its journey, called “Haradah” coming from the same aforementioned root word “charadah”. This is part of the forty-two encampments that Israel had to go through before they could enter the Promised Land.

In our walk with the Lord, there are things we need to face; Training that we need to go through in order to be prepared to enter the promise that is ours in Christ Jesus. Just because we are saved does not mean we are ready to enter the Promise Land. We need to understand that salvation is coming through the Red Sea. Our old self must pass away to receive a new mind. We must learn to trust the Lord for everything, we are learning to be warriors in His kingdom and I think the greatest war that is waged is the one that is waged in the desert of our heart and mind.

What we need to understand about fear is that it limits us. In our walk with the Lord, fear is the exact opposite of faith. If we are in a state of fear then we are unable to please God. The Word teaches us in Hebrews 11:6: “… without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him”. Fear keeps us trapped and controlling every decision that we make. Just like Israel, we need to overcome this fear in our lives so we can move on.

In Proverbs 29:25: “… the fear of man bringeth a snare …”, the word snare here is “mowqesh” (מוקש) meaning to bait or lure. It comes from the root word “yaqosh” (יקש) to lure, entice, or set a trap. What are we so intimidated by? Is it authority, our peers, or those that we are supposed to be leading? All of our illness: physical, mental, and spiritual can be attributed to this fear that is has snared each of us, don’t you think it’s time we move on from this station in our lives? In 2 Timothy 1:7 Paul writes: “… for God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind”.

The second part of this scripture (Proverbs 29:25) reads “… but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe”. The Hebrew word used here is “batach” (בטח) meaning to trust and/or to trust in, to have confidence. Be confident, bold, and secure in His deep abiding love for each of us for. When we live in this frame of mind we are living by faith and our trust is that the Lord has all things in his hands. There is no need to fear anymore, we can be sure our knowledge that God is with us, now, so no man can be against us.

Jesus said in John 1:12-13: “… but as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God”. That is you and me when we received Jesus, we were given the power to become the sons of Elohim (God); Not slaves to fear.

So the promise is ours no matter what we are facing in our work, family, and finances. Whatever the trials may be, as we walk through this desert that is in our heart and mind “be sure that we are safe in His arms”.
